Usually when effective stacks are <10bb (almost always in the later levels) it's a shove or fold play. Turbo tournaments are mostly played preflop by shoving or folding.

100 chips might be the difference between a +EV call and -EV call when facing an all in pre flop.Īlthough it may seem like a crapshoot, it really isn't. That being said, make sure you account for them when they come in. If you're playing single table SNGs then use BB's and not M, since antes don't make it in until later stages and when they do there will be less players to post one so it doesn't change the dead money by a lot. They also run more often and seem to attract more fish. Your edge will be slightly lower when the blinds get higher and you and your opponents go into push or shove mode (although sometimes they don't which is incorrect and why we still have an edge.) The tradeoff for this is that a turbo tournament takes significantly less time than a normal tournament.

The trade off for turbos is more volume for more variance. I'm assuming you're talking about single table SNGs? They all play different so you need to be specific.
